Fartyg 6

A groove that breaks down, a jazzy solo that floats into mysterious harmonies, a powerful refrain explodes into chaotic drones. “Everything’s falling”. Sudden change; an unexpected melody, crystal clear, a new tempo emerges. “Everything’s falling. Everything’s falling into place” the lyrics goes.

“Allt faller” (Everything’s Falling) is the title of the Swedish band Fartyg 6’s new album, that was released 2018 with PACAYA records. When they released their first EP “Den Första” (The First) it was already clear that the group had something completely unique to contribute with to the music scene.

The band was started by the vocalist and composer Matilda Andersson. She and saxophone player Daniel Gahrton compose the music based upon poems and lyrics written by the vocalist. The music is groovy and playful yet thoughtful. Jazz melodies in Swedish are mixed in a daring way with influences from Zappa, Austrian free jazz and Ligeti. They have been credited for their original sound, where the unusual setting is an important element with double dark winds; bass clarinet and baritone saxophone along with Anderssons varied style singing. The drummer Julia Schabbauer's drum play uplifts the music with contrasts and dynamic in a close interplay with Boel Mogensen on bass and Milton Öhrström on piano.

The band members are all important on the Swedish music scene and have played with numerous famous artists in Sweden in a big range of styles such as Loney Dear, Rigmor Gustafsson, Nisse Landgren, Bohuslän Big Band and Lisa Ekdahl to name a few. Since the start, Fartyg 6 have performed in Sweden and international for a wide audience on various scenes with great appreciation.
This is an up and coming jazz comet, ready to fill space with their unimaginable music that we are about to hear about.

"This music stretches out of boundaries and does not want to get caught in any known form, and the vocals adds, as said, a lot, not least because it is also used as an improvisational instrument. I have often missed vocals in the above-mentioned" borderland music " . Fartyg 6 manage to unite vocals with meaningful lyrics and challenging music in an artful and convincing way that you would like to hear more of! " / Roger Bergner, ORKESTERJOURNALEN 2016
