Josefin Runsteen

Josefin Runsteen is a Swedish musician, producer, composer and arranger who works in many different genres. She has released two albums so far, in 2020 she released the acoustic improvised album Thank God the Plague is Over together with Charles Spearin (CA) at the canadian label Arts & Crafts. October 2021 Josefin released an electronic solo album, HANA - Three Bodies (Original Soundtrack) on PACAYA records.

The music on HANA - Three Bodies (Original Soundtrack)  was originally composed as a soundtrack to the Butoh dance piece HANA-Three Bodies, conceived and performed by choreographer/dancer Frauke. Butoh (舞踏, Butō) is a Japanese minimalistic modern dance and this piece toured Asia and Europe in 2019. HANA—Japanese for FLOWER —represents the innate intelligence of nature. The composition, like the dance, is intended to depict HANA as it manifests in all five elements: Air, Fire, Earth, Water and Void.

Besides her own music, Josefin Runsteen has worked with pop artists like Adrianne Lenker, Ane Brun, Damien Rice, Håkan Hellström, Frank Ocean, Jens Lekman, Loney Dear,  Alabaster de Plume etc as arranger musician or producer. Josefin also plays regularly with larger jazz bands like Fire! Orchestra, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra and Mariam the Believer. She was earlier member of the popband Wildhart

At the Polar Music Prize Ceremony 2017 Josefin was violin soloist with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra at the Stockholm Concert hall and 2019 she won Swedish National Radio’s award ”Jazzkatten” in the category “Newcomer of the Year”.
